Student E-mail Has Moved to Google

The move to Crimson is finished. Student e-mail has moved from BamaMail to Crimson, a Google Apps for Education domain. With the move to Crimson, students get 7 GB of mail storage, the familiar Gmail interface, and permanent e-mail addresses @crimson.ua.edu.

The move to Crimson took place May 8-10. There was no interruption in e-mail service during this time. The following is finished:

  • Mail has been copied from BamaMail to Crimson. All students have had their saved messages copied over.
  • Address book migration: All accounts have had their address books copied.
  • Forwarding Crimson accounts: If your BamaMail account is currently forwarded elsewhere, your Crimson account is now forwarded to the same location. If you were forwarding to more than one address, Crimson is forwarded to the first one you listed when you set up the forwarding. Regardless of the setting on BamaMail, a copy of all mail forwarded is being left on your Crimson account.
  • Crimson login icon available: All students should now see a Crimson icon in myBama, next to the familiar BamaMail e-mail icon. You can explore your account, send mail, and receive messages sent to your @crimson.ua.edu address.
  • BamaMail accounts are forwarding to Crimson. Use Crimson for all new mail (incoming and outgoing).
  • The BamaMail icon will be removed from your myBama login sometime after the migration is successfully completed.
  • If mail or contacts are missing from your account, you should contact the HelpDesk at 348-4357 or Help.Desk@ua.edu.
