Tegrity Issues

UPDATE: September 1, 2015 – Tegrity appears to be fully functioning. Please notify the Faculty Resource Center with any issues: http://helpspot.frc.ua.edu/helpspot/index.php?pg=request

Tegrity has been having issues across the country and remains mostly inoperable here at UA. Tegrity’s support team is continuing to work on this issue. You can follow their status here.

If you have any questions, please contact fry@ua.edu for further information. We recognize the difficulties this issue is causing for UA faculty and students, and we are actively monitoring the situation.

Banner’s INB Web Interface Down

July 23rd, 2015- OIT is investigating an outage with Banner’s INB Web interface.  SSB is not affected.


Windows updates – INFORMATIONAL

June 10th, 2015- OIT released Microsoft patches for May to OIT supported machines yesterday.  There was one update that could cause a machine to hang at the “completing 3 of 3” stage.  If you get that, just do a CTRL, ALT, DELETE to reboot.


Adobe PC

May 7th, 2015- Adobe DC cannot install on Mac OS Mountain Lion (10.8) and below. Supported Mac operating systems are Mavericks (10.9) and Yosemite (10.10).

Temporary Loss of Exchange 2007 Connectivity

April 30th, 2015- One of the Exchange 2007 databases dismounted.  This would have affected the ability to get to webmail/Outlook for some Exchange 2007 users in some areas of Academic Affairs only.  This has been fixed.  Please escalate any lingering issues to the OIT Service Desk.

Yosemite Upgrade

April 28th, 2015- Yosemite 10.10.3 appears to resolve most of the issues previously experienced with Yosemite.  OIT recommends that Mac users upgrade cautiously as some problems may not yet be identified.


Latest Chrome Update Breaks Java for INB (Banner)

April 17th, 2015-The latest update to chrome disables the java plugin needed by INB.

Here is the workaround.

As of Chrome Version 42, an additional configuration step is required to continue using NPAPI plugins.

  1. In your URL bar, enter:
  2. Click the Enable link for the Enable NPAPI configuration option.
  3. Click the Relaunch button that now appears at the bottom of the configuration page.

Printing Issues – NAC

March 2nd, 2015- Security is investigating an issue with the NAC capturing certain printers/printing ports across campus. This may impact your printing. They are working the issue now.


February 20th, 2015-OIT is aware of an email based virus infection that seems to be spreading and changing through embedded executables in zip file attachments.  We are working on determining all entry points and closing these as quickly as possible.

Alert your users to resist the urge to open any zip files they are not expecting even though the email appears to come from someone they may know.  Please delete the email immediately.  If they have opened the zip file, please have them call the service desk (8-5555), their machine is infected and is sending out infected emails to others in their address book.

VPN Issue on Windows 8 with Newest MS Patch

February 19th, 2015- Microsoft’s latest patch – KB3023607 – is causing connection failures with the Cisco AnyConnect VPN software.   Microsoft and Cisco are aware of the problem and are working on a correction.  The following workaround can be used until that change is applied:

On the Windows Taskbar, right-click on the Cisco AnyConnect icon and choose Quit.

Open File Explorer and navigate to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Cisco\Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client\vpnui.exe; right-click on it, and then choose the Troubleshoot Compatibility option.

Choose Try Recommended Settings.

Click Test Program. Choosing to “Test the Program” will launch the Cisco AnyConnect client, giving you the chance test logging in. It should work.

Once it’s proven that Cisco AnyConnect works, choose to save the settings. If it doesn’t work, the troubleshooter gives you the options of trying again with different settings.

Program Compatibility Troubleshooter will give you a final report. Close the troubleshooter and you should be good to go.

Yosemite Issue

November 24th, 2014- It has come to our attention that some machines, when upgraded to Yosemite, will no longer boot, and get hung at various percentages of the boot process.  See this forum thread…


Some of these suggestions did work, but mostly it appears that after multiple reboots it just begins working again.  One of the linked threads within this one states that upgrading to 10.10.1 did not resolve the issue.  At this point OIT still recommends to proceed with caution as there do not appear to be any hard and fast methods of resolution.

Yosemite OS and Blackboard Collaborate

November 6th, 2014- Yosemite OS for Mac is not currently a supported operating system for Blackboard Collaborate. Testing indicates that Mac users with the Yosemite OS should be able to access Blackboard Collaborate sessions. Apple OS X Yosemite and WPA2

October 22, 2014- OIT has identified three laptops (two that were upgraded and one that was purchased with Yosemite) that will not connect to WPA2.  Attempts at resolution were not successful.  While it does not appear that all upgraded or newly purchased machines are affected, OIT recommends users wait until there is an update available from Apple that addresses this issue before upgrading at this time.  OIT will monitor education forums to see if there are any resolutions outside of Apple that can be applied and will communicate any information discovered.

Adobe Creative Cloud

December 4, 2013 – There are known issues with Adobe Lightroom for Windows and Adobe Muse CC for Windows and Mac volume license customers. Lightroom for Mac does not appear to be affected.  Adobe is aware of these issues, but does not know when solutions will be available.  As such, Adobe Muse CC is not available at this time. Lightroom for Windows is available, but cannot be updated on demand through Adobe Creative Cloud (i.e. a technician has to manually install any updates). As more permanent solutions become available from Adobe, OIT will make them available to campus.

Windows 8 Known Issues

Snow Leopard Update Issue

February 3, 2012 – OIT has recently been made aware of an issue with a security patch from Apple for iMacs running Snow Leopard.  Please read the article below for further information.

If you are running any of the programs listed in the article, please be aware that applying this update could cause printing errors, glitches, and crashes when quitting an application.

Office for Mac on MacOS 10.7 (Lion)

On Office for Mac on MacOS 10.7 (Lion), Communicator crashes when you send an IM or start an audio/visual call. Microsoft will resolve this issue in an upcoming update. Another known issue is that Mac 2004 will not run on Lion. Other known issues are listed in the Microsoft knowledgebase article at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2586538.

OS X 10.6.8 Update Causes Network Printers to Pause

The new Mac update breaks network printing. When you try to print, you will see your printer go to pause and hold the print job. Deleting the printer and re-adding does not work. Contact the IT Service Desk at (205) 348-5555 or itsd@ua.edu for the fix file. Unzip the file and run the package. Then run disk utilities and repair permissions. You may have to delete and re-add the printer.

IE 9 Incompatible with Release 3.2 of TideBytes

June 28, 2011 – Version 9 of Internet Explorer is not supported with the new release 3.2 of TIDEbytes. IE9 is expected to be supported in the 4th quarter. If you have questions, call the IT Service Desk at (205) 348-5555.

SPSS 19 Startup Issue

June 2, 2011 – If you experience an error while launching SPSS 19 (most often for the first time after installation) regarding a “side-by-side” configuration, or “application not configured correctly” message, please try the following steps to remedy the issue.

1. One possible cause of this problem is that the Microsoft Visual C++ redistributables the application requires did not execute and install properly during installation of the Statistics application. You can run them manually post-installation from here:

C:\Program Files\IBM\SPSS\Statistics\19\VC8\Vcredist_x86.exe   (run this one first)
C:\Program Files\IBM\SPSS\Statistics\19\VC9\Vcredist_x86.exe

Office 2010 Known Compatibility Issues

  • Call Pilot is not compatible with Outlook 2010.
  • The toolbar for Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 does not work correctly Word and Excel 2010. However, you can create a PDF file by selecting Adobe Acrobat as your printer when using the File-Print function.

Adobe Pro X Does Not Support ADBC

March 10, 2011 -The newest version of Adobe Professional, Adobe Pro X, has dropped the feature ADBC, a JavaScript Function that makes a connection to databases. This was the only significant issue found during testing of Adobe Pro X.
