UA+Box

UA+Box is a cloud storage service provided for free to students, faculty, and staff of The University of Alabama via Box.com with no storage limit. UA+Box is accessible on desktop and mobile devices, and it is encrypted both in transit and storage.

UA+Box is also useful for sharing and collaboration – folders and documents may be shared among users for distributed editing and viewing. UA+Box has robust permissions settings, allowing collaborators to be viewers or editors, and it keeps revisions of documents so that your work is never lost.

Login and Access

Setting Up Your Account

Users should login to Box the first time by clicking the link below. You will be redirected to a myBama login page for authentication, then back to Box.

Once connected to Box, you are highly encouraged to set up your an alias for your email address. The default email address will be something like jdoe@ua.edu, but many users may prefer to use an alternate email addresses. Students should have their Crimson address added automatically. You will only be able to login to the mobile app or Box Sync using email addresses that have been added to your account.

Mobile Apps

Because UA+Box utilizes Box.com for it’s services, mobile apps are available on a number of platforms including iOS, Android, and many more. Users will be able to login to those apps using any email address attached to their account. By default, Box utilizes your myBama@ua.edu address – users are encouraged to add alternate email addresses (aliases) to their account if needed.

Box Sync

UA+Box can synchronize files to your desktop or laptop computers so those files are available even when you are not connected to the Internet. To do this you can download the Box Sync add-on app available by clicking the cloud icon at the top of your UA + Box page.

Box Sync is compatible with Mac OS X Lion (10.7) and above, and Windows XP and up.

CAUTION: You should never sync folders that contain sensitive or private information to computers not owned and managed by UA.

Other Information

The service is not available to alumni or former employees. When a user is no longer an active student, faculty, or staff, they will be given the opportunity to transition their UA+Box account to a personal Box account.  Note, however, that all UA proprietary or confidential material must be removed from the account upon leaving the University.

UA+Box is a part of a business partnership between UA, Internet2, and Box.com. It is funded through central administration of The University.
