Oct. 12, 2015 – Student Phishing Alert

Friday, Oct. 12 2018, many UA students received a phishing email with the from email address “fhamedwomanlon@gmail.com” with the subject title “Student Internship Opportunity”.

This email is a phishing attempt designed to steal credentials such as a myBama username or password.  If you haven’t already, please delete the email. Additionally, if you are not a DUO user, please activate your DUO account at duo.ua.edu.

Endnote X9 Now Available

Your favorite citation manager just got better! OIT is excited to provide the new EndNote X9 to students, faculty and staff at UA. This new version of EndNote includes enhanced reference-sharing capabilities and new reference types. To see a demonstration of EndNote X9, check out EndNote Training’s YouTube Channel.

EndNote is a citation management software that allows users to create customized libraries of references, and automatically create citations and bibliographies matching the requirements of the selected journal or style manual. Users can install EndNote on any personal or UA machine, and Endnote can also be accessed anywhere by using EndNote Online. To download Endnote X9, visit the OIT Software Catalog – https://oit.ua.edu/software.

Please note that effective December 2018 OIT will no longer offer Endnote X7.  Endnote X8 will continue to be available on the OIT software catalog.

Monday, Sept. 24 2018, many UA employees received a phishing email with from the email address amuir@BakerRipley.org with the subject title “Outlook Upgrade”.

This email is a phishing attempt designed to steal credentials such as a myBama username or password.  If you haven’t already, please delete the email. Additionally, if you are not a DUO user, please activate your DUO account at duo.ua.edu.

Banner Services Unavailable Sunday, Sept. 30 from 5:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

The Office of Information Technology will be implementing a Banner Bundle upgrade on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018 from 5:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.  myBama will be available during the upgrade, but channels that connect to Banner will not be accessible, including self-service and administrative systems. For questions or concerns, contact the IT Service Desk at 205-348-5555 or itsd@ua.edu.

ITSD Ticket Monitoring Page

OIT has developed a new webpage where students, faculty and staff can submit and also monitor requests with the IT Service Desk. To access the page, visit myBama.ua.edu and click the Tech Tab. Visit the link at the top right of the page titled “Submit Service Request and Check Ticket Status.” On this page, users can submit new requests to the IT Service Desk and also monitor existing requests. Users can also email itservicedesk@ua.edu to submit requests. Remember to provide as much detail as possible in your request so our team can work quickly to resolve your issue!

OIT to Add DUO to Additional UA Services

Monday, Sept. 10, 2018 DUO two-factor authentication will be applied to the Concur travel and expense management system and to UA Box cloud storage. This change will only impact active DUO users.  On Sept. 10, users that have active DUO accounts will begin to see the DUO prompt when logging into Concur or Box. Users who have not activated DUO will not notice any change, users will login with their username and password. This change will not impact users who have installed Box mobile or desktop apps such as Box Sync.

DUO is designed to protect the sensitive data held within user accounts like Concur and Box. The Office of Information Technology recommends that all UA faculty and staff activate DUO.
