Your applications can reside on department-owned or OIT-owned hardware when hosted in the OIT data center. OIT can provide any combination of management services, or our team can set up authorized administrative access.
Provisioning of virtual or physical servers, storage, and databases are routine operations for the OIT staff. Servers can employ Windows or Linux operating systems. Database options include Oracle, SQL Server, and MySQL.
Platform management is often provided by OIT while the customer manages the application. A range of standard hardware configurations to custom configurations are available to meet your specific requirements. Oracle, SQL Server, or MySQL databases may be included in application hosting platforms. Hosting services include platform design/configuration, procurement, setup, security review, operational monitoring, capacity monitoring, platform patching, backup/restore, archive, and disaster recovery. Where appropriate, structured project management services are employed to ensure the success of your hosting projects.
Customers may request hosting services for Oracle, SQL Server, or MySQL databases. Databases are hosted in the secure OIT data center. Services may include sizing and configuration, access control/security design, performance and capacity planning, implementation, routine platform and database management, operational and capacity monitoring, backup/restore, archiving, and disaster recovery.
OIT offers data storage services for departments and groups. Data is stored on secure, RAID-protected storage platforms in the OIT data center.
Storage requirements usually include the need for backup services. OIT offers storage with as standard daily off-site backup with 15 days of retention. This means that when you need 1TB of local storage, you really are asking for 2+TB total storage and the backup services.
In cases where no off-site backup is required, we offer simple RAID protected storage with a daily local backup (only the most recent backup is retained). This storage is limited to 2TB per customer and is not recommended for high-value data.
The charge for storage with off-site daily backup and 15 day retention is $1.44/GB/Year. The charge for storage with local daily backup is $0.30 / GB / Year (2 TB max).
Data Backup & Recovery
OIT provides a flexible data backup service enabling secure, automated, and low-cost protection against data loss.
Features and options vary depending on data types, amount of data, where source data is hosted, retention requirements, data/time loss tolerance, and other factors. Standard backup models range from simple on-site replication to off-site replication/snapshot models with extended retention. Near-line and off-line tape archival storage is also available.
Costs may or may not apply depending on the application and other factors. Most costs can be annualized to reduce start-up costs. Costs are minimized through resource sharing (virtualization), volume procurement, careful resource optimization, and centralized management. For many small applications, charges are waived or are minimal.
