Microsoft Imagine

PC

Imagine (previously known as DreamSpark) is a subscription program from Microsoft to provide professional developer and design tools for teaching and research. A complete list of software included with each subscription can be found on the Imagine website.

Imagine Standard

Imagine Standard covers all students, faculty, and labs across the University. Products include Visual Studio, Windows Server, SQL Server, and others.

Imagine Premium

Imagine Premium is offered to STEM programs only.  To find aImagine Premium subscription offered through The University of Alabama, search for the University on the student section of the Imagine website.

Cost

No cost for eligible users.

Eligibility

Departments Faculty Students

Software is accessed through the University’s DreamSpark Standard WebStore using myBama credentials.

For lab installations, lab coordinators can request access to the University’s Imagine Standard WebStore to download products and product keys by contacting the IT Service Desk.

Eligiblity and Cost

Software provided through Imagine Standard is available at no cost to UA students, faculty, and academic departmental labs.

Students

Students enrolled in at least one course during the current semester may install the software on personal machines.  Students may continue to use the software when they are no longer students provided they do so in accordance with the Microsoft Imagine Standard Subscription Agreement terms.

Faculty

Current faculty members teaching courses or conducting academic, non-commercial research may install the software on personal or University-owned machines.

Computer Labs

Academic department computer labs may use the Imagine software.

Licensing Information

This software is licensed for use on both personal and University-owned machines and devices.

Imagine products may only be used for academic instruction, academic projects, and non-commercial research. Use of Imagine software for commercial purposes is prohibited, except if developing apps and games for the Windows platform to be published on Microsoft app stores for no cost. All licensing information and restrictions are detailed in the Imagine Standard Usage Guidelines.

Visual Studio and other products offered through Imagine for administrative use can be purchased via the Microsoft Select Agreement.

Software Information

Administrative users are not eligible to access Imagine Standard software. Software may be purchased through the Microsoft Select Agreement.  Check with your departmental IT group to determine if certain software is already available to you.
