About Microsoft Safe Links
Phishing emails often contain hyperlinks to malicious websites. A hyperlink in an email may appear to link to a reliable website you’re familiar with, but actually be linked to a different website. Microsoft Safe Links scans incoming emails for malicious hyperlinks and attachments, and it lets you know the real URL of a link.
Link Changes
Depending on how you access your mail, you may see two different options. When hovering over a link in a newer client, ATP will showcase the actual URL of a link.
In older clients, Microsoft Safe Links rewrites scanned URLs to Microsoft’s standard URL format: https://nam01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com. Depending on the version of your client, you may see rewritten URLs.
Microsoft Safe Links Protection
Microsoft Safe Links analyzes links for any potential malicious content. If the content is categorized as malicious, you will be directed to a block page when attempting to access the link in your Internet browser, as displayed in the photo below. If the link is not malicious, the browser will link to the intended website.
What do I need to do?
Microsoft Safe Links work behind the scenes, there is no action required of users to use Microsoft Safe Links.
