The VMware Academic Program provides students and faculty in STEM programs access to virtualization technology and resources for teaching and research.

VMware Academic Program includes

  • VMware Fusion
  • VMware eLearning and VMware Sales Professional training materials
  • VMware vSphere Enterprise Plus
  • VMware vCenter Server Standard

Cost

No cost to eligible students and faculty.

Eligibility

Faculty Students

Software is accessed through the University’s VMware webstore using myBama credentials. Only students and faculty enrolled in STEM programs and/or courses are eligible to use this software.

For lab installations, lab coordinators can request access by contacting the IT Service Desk.

Eligiblity and Cost

There is no cost for eligible students and faculty which includes students taking STEM courses or conducting non-commercial research as well as faculty members teaching STEM courses or conducting non-commercial research.

  • Program software may only be installed in lab environments where the lab is primarily used for instructional or research uses.
  • Program software installed in shared lab environments can be used across different courses offered by different faculty members.

Licensing Information

This software is licensed for use on both personal and University-owned machines and devices.

Licenses acquired through the VMware Academic Program are for instructional, non-commercial research and personal use only. Software cannot be used for purposes associated with operating the University, such as administrative or infrastructure purposes (i.e. those purpose not intended as instructional or research).

vSphere licenses provided under this program may not be used for desktop virtualization. Students receiving licenses through a qualifying course or research project may use the licenses after the course or project is concluded. Licenses are 365-day evaluation licenses that require a one-time, annual download.
