Our latest edition of “We Are IT” features Allegra Adams, an Information Security Engineer with OIT. Allegra plays a crucial role in ensuring the security of our campus’s digital infrastructure. Her work protects the university’s data and safeguards the personal information of students, faculty, and staff.
Allegra’s journey into cybersecurity began at the IT service desk in December 2020. The service desk is where her interest in cybersecurity took off, and she transitioned to the security team in October 2022. Since then, she has been instrumental in managing various security tools and systems. Allegra oversees Axonius for inventory management, BeyondTrust for endpoint privilege management, Malwarebytes for malware protection, Defender for Endpoint, and Duo for multi-factor authentication. These tools are vital in protecting the university’s devices and user accounts from malicious actors.
Her dedication to her work is evident in her continuous pursuit of knowledge. She has taken several courses in cybersecurity and forensics, and she actively participates in ongoing training to stay updated on the latest threats and trends. “It’s not a stagnant position,” Allegra explains. “You have to stay up to date on the latest threats, the latest trends… I’m always interested to learn something new.”

Outside of work, Allegra is a proud mother to her eight-month-old son, Nash. Spending time with him and witnessing his milestones has been her new favorite hobby. “He’s the sweetest little boy and he makes life so full of energy,” she says. Allegra also enjoys creative activities like embroidery, binge-watching her favorite shows such as Doctor Who and Supernatural, cooking, and reading in her spare time.
