We Are IT – Bud Hobeck

The University of Alabama’s Office of Information Technology wanted to introduce one of the only completely remote workers, Bud Hobeck. Hobeck works for OIT remotely in Virginia as a Program Analyst IV in Process Automation.

Hobeck’s primary role is administering and working with the OnBase system, a repository for the university’s documents, forms, and more. He also works with developing and maintaining over 50 workflows with various departments at The University of Alabama. “I enjoy working with the teams a lot to get the workflows set up the way they want it to go, set up the document types, or all these different processes that we need to set up,” said Hobeck.

Although he is not on campus, Hobeck manages plenty of projects for the University. Hobeck typically handles anywhere from three to five large projects at a time while simultaneously managing smaller work orders and tickets.

Hobeck has been working with OnBase since 2001 in roles including hardware, financial, and programming. In January, Hobeck will have worked with the University of Alabama for three years, despite never setting foot on campus. “Because one of these days my plan is definitely to get down there somehow, some way, so that I can actually meet folks face-to-face,” Hobeck emphasized.

To learn about computer electronics, Hobeck attended the computer vocational school, ECPI University, after high school. He then continued to learn more about computers and obtain certifications in technology.

When he is not managing the University’s OnBase remotely, Hobeck has a multitude of hobbies he indulges in. When he is away from his computer, he enjoys spending time with his wife and children and is an avid Washington Capitals fan. The newest hobby Hobeck has been trying is smoking meats, one he experimented with over Thanksgiving.

Hobeck and his wife also enjoy travelling, especially day trips across the state of Virginia. However, they have also travelled well outside the state of Virginia. “In my lifetime and my career, I’ve travelled to 32 different states within the United States and 32 different countries across the world with previous jobs that I had worked,” stated Hobeck.

The Office of Information Technology thanks Bud Hobeck for all he does for this campus, even remotely.
