Federal rules from Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act now require all university digital resources, such as websites, apps, course materials, and more, to be accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. The compliance deadline is April 2026, so we are actively addressing policies, training, and technology, but success depends on all of us.
Why It Matters:
Accessibility benefits everyone, not just those with disabilities. Features like captions, image descriptions, color contrast, clear fonts, and easy navigation make digital content more usable and accessible to all.
What You Can Do:
- Use accessibility checkers (Office 365, Acrobat, wave.webaim.org)
- Add captions to videos and alt text to images
- Choose clear fonts and good color contrast
- Make links descriptive and avoid jargon
