This month, the Office of Information Technology recognizes Gabrielle Johnson, a User Services Technician with the IT Service Desk.
Johnson has been with The University of Alabama as a User Services Technician for a little under two years. She works with the IT Service Desk in Gordon Palmer Hall and helps students, faculty, and staff with their IT needs. “We’re often the first point of contact for any tech issues on campus, whether that’s a Wi-Fi issue or something as simple as changing a password or logging into my Bama, setting up Duo,” explained Johnson.
The IT Service Desk has a 24/7 hotline (205-348-5555), an email (ITSD@ua.edu), and an in-person office (125 Gordon Palmer Hall) where experts like Johnson can help solve tech issues on campus. Johnson estimates she handles about 40 clients and their tech issues each day.
Johnson recounts how she became interested in technology, “I can remember being 8 years old, and I remember my mom got her first touch screen phone, and she had no idea how to work it. And I don’t know how, but I knew how to work it, and I can remember helping her learn how to use her phone.” From that point on, Johnson continued not only an interest in technology but in helping others understand the nuances of it.

As she has worked with OIT, Johnson has continued to learn more and more about technology. As Johnson says, “There’s always something that you can research further.” This is a philosophy she brings to the IT Service Desk as she helps students, faculty, and staff every day.
When she is not working with The University of Alabama’s Office of Information Technology, Johnson indulges in a number of hobbies. She spends a significant amount of time with her family and friends. They love to attend events like rodeos, concerts, and more.
The University of Alabama’s Office of Information Technology is appreciative of all the help the IT Service Desk and Gabrielle Johnson provide for students, faculty, and staff on this campus.
