We Are IT – Adriane Davis

This month, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) recognizes Adriane, an Instructional Technologist III here at The University of Alabama.

Adriane works in the Center for Instructional Technology (CIT), a department of OIT that focuses on instructional technologies. Instructional technologies are digital tools to enhance, facilitate, and improve the learning process.  CIT supports UA by troubleshooting instructional technologies, providing learning opportunities for all users, and so much more.

“People on campus might not realize that instructional technology is more than just troubleshooting technology issues. We also partner with faculty and staff to design effective learning experiences,” said Adriane. As an Instructional Technologist III, Adriane works with both faculty and students on campus to optimize their use of instructional technology.

Adriane is an alumna of the University of Alabama, where she studied Human Environmental Sciences. After a career as a Graduate Advisor in the College of Education, she decided to pursue a Master’s in Instructional Technology to understand the behind-the-scenes of technology and education.

“Being in the background, seeing how things work on the back end of things,” said Adriane, “you know, they don’t see how courses are created, how students are added, what happens if a student is unable to log in, or if a student is unable to access their courses.”

There is a lot of behind-the-scenes work in the Center for Instructional Technology that faculty and students do not see. Adriane talks about part of her day-to-day and says, “I am working on tickets, and it can be anything from a student not being able to see their courses or faculty needing assistance with setting up their grade book.” Instructional Technologists such as Adriane work on solving issues like these so that faculty and students may focus on teaching and learning.

When Adriane is not working on campus, she is spending time with her kids, typically outdoors. Their family spends a lot of time traveling during competitive soccer season, biking, walking, or riding on scooters. Adriane also makes time to indulge in self-care, something she says is very important to her.

The University of Alabama appreciates all the work Adriane does behind the scenes to support our faculty and students.
