In this month’s edition of We Are IT, Justin Brown, a Systems Analyst III with the Office of Information Technology, talks about how he works with programs and the University of Alabama.
Brown works with the Collaboration Reporting Team on campus, specifically to work alongside Microsoft and Zoom as an administrator. He serves mainly as an administrator for Microsoft Teams and Power BI, and handles the primary reporting and communication tools at the University of Alabama. This includes meetings with Microsoft, faculty, and students, handling service tickets, and integrating data software into systems.
Brown’s journey began at the University of Alabama in 2011 as he studied Management Information Systems. He worked as a Student Employee with the university in 2012, 2015, and 2016 for the Finance and Operations VP office. Brown has now worked for the University of Alabama for just over 11 years in various roles, including his current role as a Systems Analyst 3.
Interacting and working with people is one of his favorite parts of the job, according to Brown. Collaborating with faculty, staff, and students to find solutions for their problems is what Brown enjoys the most.

Brown helps facilitate conversations between Microsoft and the University of Alabama. “We have a good, close working relationship with Microsoft, which is nice. We have monthly stand-up meetings with them where we can address anything,” said Brown. These meetings help solve any problems faculty and students may have experienced and foster this relationship with Microsoft.
Outside of working with Microsoft at the University of Alabama, Brown enjoys outdoor activities such as fishing, hunting, camping, and landscaping at his home. He expresses his love for his wife, Kaleigh, and his two younger daughters, and how they interact as a family.
