This month, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) recognizes Adriane Davis, an Instructional Technologist III here at The University of Alabama.
Adriane works with the Center for Instructional Technology, a department of OIT that focuses on technology for our classrooms. They handle troubleshooting, course designs, student software, and so much more.
“Many people on campus may not realize that instructional technology goes beyond troubleshooting and fixing technical problems. We collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to support meaningful and effective learning experiences,” Adriane said. As an Instructional Technologist III, Adriane works with faculty, staff, and students across campus to help them make the most of the technology available to them.
Adriane is an alumna of The University of Alabama, where she studied Human Environmental Sciences. After working as a Graduate Advisor in the College of Education, she became increasingly interested in how learning experiences are designed and supported beyond what students see. That curiosity led her to pursue a Master’s in Instructional Technology, where she deepened her understanding of learning design, instructional tools, and the systems that keep courses running, everything from how course content is built and delivered to the processes that support access, communication, and assessment.
Much of the Center for Instructional Technology’s work happens behind the scenes, so faculty and students may not see everything that goes into keeping learning tools running smoothly. Adriane shared what her day-to-day can look like: “I’m working on support tickets, and it can be anything from a student not being able to see their courses to a faculty member needing help setting up their grade book.” Instructional Technologists like Adriane handle issues such as these so faculty and students can stay focused on teaching and learning.

When Adriane is not working on campus, she spends time with her two children, typically outdoors. Their family spends a lot of time traveling during competitive soccer seasons, biking, walking, or playing on scooters. Adriane also makes time to indulge in self-care, something she says is very important to her.
The University of Alabama appreciates all the work Adriane Davis does behind-the-scenes to support our faculty, staff, and students.
