MATLAB combines a desktop environment tuned for interactive analysis and design processes with a programming language that expresses matrix and array mathematics directly.

MATLAB includes analysis, design, modeling, simulation, code generation and testing products. The UA System-wide license provides the full suite of MATLAB and Simulink products, including a variety of companion products and current toolboxes. A few of the latest toolboxes are listed below. The UA System-wide license also includes free access to all online training courses as well as customer support.

Eligibility

Faculty Staff Students

Students and faculty can visit the MATLAB portal through the button below. Upon accessing the portal, users can run the installer, view video tutorials and obtain software support. Users will first be prompted for their myBama username and password, then users will be directed to a MATLAB login page. Users with an existing MATLAB account can login, or users can create an account. After logging in with or establishing a MATLAB account, the download will be available.

Existing MATLAB users can also download the software through the MATLAB portal. Simply run the installer, and the UA System-wide license will be applied to your MATLAB software. With the UA System license, users will receive the latest version of MATLAB will all available toolboxes. This is the same procedure users follow to obtain new releases of the software.

License File Update

MATLAB users must reactive the MATLAB license each August. Follow these instructions to update your license file and continue to use MATLAB.

Open MATLAB (If the license has already expired the activation client will launch and you can skip the next step)
Navigate to Help Menu and select Licensing
Click on Activate Software
Choose to Activate using Internet
Once reactivated you will need to restart MATLAB before the new license file is recognized If the installation has already expired, you will be prompted to activate when attempting to launch MATLAB. As long as the activation finishes successfully it will roll over to the new license file once the old one expires. You might continue to see the expiration warning in MATLAB until the old file expires.

Lab Administrators may install MATLAB on shared machines in a lab environment. Please visit the link below to access the software. To be authorized to access the link, please contact the IT Service Desk.

Eligibility and Cost

Students and faculty can use MATLAB at no cost. Sponsors of visiting scholars and visiting faculty can request access for visitors by contacting the IT Service Desk to request access for this particular software.

Licensing Information

MATLAB is provided through a UA System-wide software license.

Software Information

MATLAB and its components can be used on both University and personal machines. Users can download the software to multiple devices.
