Troubleshooting – Manually Add the SSID

Some devices may require an IT administrator to update the driver of a laptop to obtain a connection. If the newer driver still does not allow for a connection, manually add the SSID by following the instructions below.

  1. Visit your device’s Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center, then click Manage Wireless Networks.
  2. Click Add, then select Manually create a network profile.
  3. Enter information for the wireless network.
    1. Name – eduroam
    2. Security type – WPA2-Enterprise
    3. Encryption type – AES
    4. Leave the security key blank
    5. Check to start this connection automatically
    6. Click next
  4. Double click Change Connection Settings.
  5. On the Network Properties window that appears, on the Connection tab, check Connect automatically when this network is in range.
  6. Click the Security tab, then click the settings button. Scroll through the Trusted Root Certification Authorities until you see the USERTrust RSA Certification Authority and check the box beside it.
  7. Click the Configure button and uncheck the box that appears – Automatically use my Windows logon name and password, click ok.
  8. Now try to connect to the eduroam network with your mybamausername@ua.edu email address and myBama password.

If you are still unable to connect, please contact the IT Service Desk.
