Two-Factor Authentication
Okta Verify adds a second layer of security to your myBama and email accounts. It requires two factors to verify identity. These factors include something you know – your username and password, and something you have – a phone or passcode, to authenticate and allow access to an account. Okta Verify is required for all UA students, faculty, staff, and student applicants.
We offer step-by-step instructions, videos and guides to help you activate and use Okta Verify daily.
How can you receive Okta Verify notifications on your new device? We’ve got the answer to that question, and others.
Don’t have your Okta Verify registered device? No biggie. Retrieve Okta Verify passcodes through our self-service portal.
Authentication Options
There are several ways you can use Okta Verify.
Push Notification
Once you’ve installed the Okta Verify mobile app on your smartphone or tablet, you can select to receive a push notification. Open the notification, and you’ll see buttons titled “Yes, it’s me” and “No, it’s not me.” Simply tap “Yes, it’s me” to gain access. This is the easiest way to use Okta Verify, and it’s the preferred option.
Passcodes
You can use the same Okta Verify mobile app to generate passcodes. This option does not require wifi or data, so this is a great option if you’re traveling or if you have limited or no cell/internet service. Open your Okta Verify mobile app, tap The University of Alabama logo and it will reveal a passcode. You can enter this passcode when you receive the Okta Verify prompt. If you do not have your device with you, don’t worry. You can use our self-service page to generate temporary access codes to get into your myBama account. These passcodes can be entered in the Okta Verify prompt on your computer.
Okta FastPass
Choose this option to use your native biometric login option on your phone or computer. When you choose this option, Okta Verify will access your native biometric option and grant you access.
