Two-Factor Authentication

DUO two-factor authentication adds a second layer of security to your myBama account. It requires two factors to verify identity. These factors include something you know – your username and password, and something you have – a phone or passcode, to authenticate and gain access to an account.

Passwords alone no longer provide adequate protection against cyber hacking. Activate DUO on your myBama account today!

How Do I Start Using DUO?

DUO is available to current UA students, faculty and staff. Please follow the steps below, and click here for a step-by-step picture guide.

Step 1 – Activate DUO on Your Account

Visit the DUO Management Portal and click “Activate DUO.”

Step 2 – Enroll Your Device

Now that your account is activated, you’ll need to enroll your device(s). The DUO activation portal will prompt you to do this automatically. You can choose mobile phone, tablet, or a landline phone.

If you choose mobile device, which is recommended, you will be prompted to enter your phone number, and choose the type of device (iPhone, Android, etc.)

Step 3 – Install & Activate Duo Mobile

DUO will walk you through how to download the mobile app for your device, but you can also access them directly at the links below.

Once you install the app, you will activate it by scanning a QR code with the app’s built in scanner. Just follow the prompted instructions through the app.

You’re ready to use DUO!

With DUO activated on your account, and with your device enrolled, you are ready to use DUO when logging into myBama. Be sure to take advantage of the Remember Me for 30 Days feature by checking the box when logging in.

Authentication Options

There are several ways you can use DUO, and you can watch Big Al demonstrate three above! We think the push option is the easiest, but if you do not want to utilize your personal smartphone, you can take advantage of the phone call to your landline desk phone.

Push Notification

Install the DUO Mobile app on your smartphone to receive push notifications. Once this is installed, and you attempt to login to your myBama, you’ll receive a push notification on your smartphone. Open the notification, and you’ll see a green checkmark, and a red x. Simply tap the green checkmark to gain access.

Phone Call

Choose this option to receive a phone call on your mobile or landline phone. When you choose this option, DUO will call your phone, and you can press a key to gain access.

Passcodes

You can use the DUO mobile app to generate passcodes. This option does not require wifi or data, so this is a great option if you’re traveling or if you have limited or no cell/internet service. Open your DUO mobile app, tap the key icon, and it will reveal a passcode. Log into myBama, choose the enter a passcode option, enter the code, and you’re in!

If you do not have your device with you, don’t worry. You can use our self-service page to generate temporary access codes to get into your myBama account. These passcodes can be entered in the DUO prompt on your computer.

How Do I Change Settings or Enroll Another Device?

To change settings or enroll another device, log in to myBama or any DUO-supported application. When you get to the DUO prompt, click the “Settings” button and choose to add a new device or access your settings. Visit our step-by-step guide for a full tutorial.
