Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching covers all students, faculty, and labs across the University. Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching includes several software items including

  • Visual Studio 2019
  • Visio Pro 2019 and 2016
  • Project Professional 2019
  • Windows Server, SQL Server, and others.

Departments Faculty Students

Software is accessed through the WebStore using myBama credentials.

Lab Installations

For lab installations, lab coordinators can request product keys by contacting the IT Service Desk.

Eligibility and Cost

Software provided through Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching Standard is available at no cost to UA students, faculty, and academic departmental labs.

Students

Students enrolled in at least one course during the current semester may install the software on personal machines.  Students may continue to use the software when they are no longer students provided they do so in accordance with the Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching Standard Subscription Agreement terms.

Faculty

Current faculty members teaching courses or conducting academic, non-commercial research may install the software on personal or University-owned machines.

Computer Labs

Academic department computer labs may use the Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching software.

Licensing Information

This software is licensed for use on both personal and University-owned machines and devices.

Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching products may only be used for academic instruction, academic projects, and non-commercial research. Use of Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching software for commercial purposes is prohibited, except if developing apps and games for the Windows platform to be published on Microsoft app stores for no cost. All licensing information and restrictions are detailed in the Usage Guidelines.

Visual Studio and other products offered through Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for administrative use can be purchased via the Microsoft Select Agreement.

Software Information

Administrative users are not eligible to access Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching Standard software. Software may be purchased through the Microsoft Select Agreement.  Check with your departmental IT group to determine if certain software is already available to you.
